Here is the process to apply for an F-1 student visa in the U.S.:

Acceptance/admission into a School:

Financial Proof:

I-20:
- Upon submitting financial proof to the school, you will receive a Form I-20 from the institution, a “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status”.

SEVIS Fee:
- Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee to register in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Learn more about how to register here.

Complete the DS-160 Form:
- Fill out the Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application (Form DS-160).

Visa Appointment:
- Schedule an appointment for a visa interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

- Attend the visa interview and provide the requested documentation.

Canada
Here is the process for applying for a Canadian study permit:

Acceptance into a DLI:
- Gain acceptance into a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada. Use this search tool to identify if your school is a designated learning institution.
- Receive a letter of acceptance from the institution.

Financial Proof:
- Obtain proof of funds from MPOWER or other sources to cover the first year of tuition, living expenses, and return transportation costs.

Application Submission:
- Submit the study permit application online or through a visa application center.
- Include the acceptance letter, proof of financial support, passport, photos, and an explanation letter if specific documents are missing. Learn more about the required document here!

Biometrics and Medical Exam:
- Provide biometrics (fingerprints and a photo) if required.
- Undergo a medical exam if asked by the Canadian authorities.

Visa Approval Process:
- Await the approval of the study permit. If approved, you will receive a Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction.
- Upon arrival in Canada, present the POE letter and other required documents to the immigration officer to get your study permit.
